BTS – Nook @ Sparks Street

What’s an Elf, a Witch and HPFP’s camera crew doing on Spark’s Street you ask? Why they are filming Nook a Sparta Short Film/Web-series about an elf who just takes on all the world’s problems… And makes them worse. We were lucky to get Jennifer Stanhope to take some BTS shots of us on our final day of shooting for the Sparta film challenge! Poor Patrick, we worked him so hard he had to take a nap… J/K, but will his Elfish character make it? Join us at the Mayfair August 25th 2013 at 11:30am to find out!

72 HOUR CHALLENGE – CASTING CALLS

Now that I’m officially signed up for OIFF 72 Hour Challenge & SPARTA I’m on the hunt for some On-Screen Talent Assistance. Both Projects are Volunteer & Non-Union; if your willing you can ask to join me in both events. SPARTA I’m looking for about 5 actors to join me in making a short film in 72 hours. Filming will be on Saturday January 26th, 2013 in Ottawa (exact location to be determined). With Friday evening (Jan 25th) and Sunday Morning (Jan 27th) as needed. OIFF I’m looking for about 4 more actors to join me in making a short film in 72 hours. Filming will be on Saturday February 9th, 2013 in Ottawa (exact location to be determined). With Friday evening (Feb 8th) and Sunday Morning (Feb 10th) as needed. Please Email me if your available and willing (SPARTA/OIFF or BOTH!) too film@hayphoto.ca with a recent HeadShot. If we haven’t worked on a project before best to send me a link (if possible) to your most recent work and an acting resume. As they are both ‘Catch’ challenges I won’t know 100% what the film will be about… If I can work it out these will be part of the first episodes of my web-series. It will be fun either way! Lets Break Some Legs (just not mine)! Film Challenges 2013

Another year another handful of film challenges, this year seems to be packed full of them. Last year I used challenges as practice and to “work to a deadline” on smaller short film projects. This year I have an entirely different modus operandi take on these challenges; empire building. I will use the challenges to work with new faces and attempt to try out a few new camera techniques which I plan to incorporate into my¬† Series and Feature projects (more on that in a later post). Film Challenges I Plan to Enter: SPARTA 72 Hour Film Challenge – Winter 2013 OIFF 72 Hour Film Challenge – Winter 2013 DIGI60Seconds – Spring 2013 SPARTA II – Summer 2013 DIGI60 – Fall 2013 There is also Talk of Treepot Media running a “cliffhanger” series which if I understand correctly will take 6 filmmakers, 12 months and end up with a feature in parts. As I really like Quieten Tarantino style films (more the multiple interlacing story lines, less the extreme violence) I really would like to be part of the project. Mainly my goal with all this is fun, but all these contests do serve another purpose, exposure and community building, which is vital for independent filmmakers like myself; and I’m looking forward to a fruitful filmic year.   P.S. If you know of other “Ottawa” based film challenges that are coming up this year, let me know in the comments below!
