Film Challenges 2013

Another year another handful of film challenges, this year seems to be packed full of them. Last year I used challenges as practice and to “work to a deadline” on smaller short film projects. This year I have an entirely different modus operandi take on these challenges; empire building. I will use the challenges to work with new faces and attempt to try out a few new camera techniques which I plan to incorporate into my¬† Series and Feature projects (more on that in a later post). Film Challenges I Plan to Enter: SPARTA 72 Hour Film Challenge – Winter 2013 OIFF 72 Hour Film Challenge – Winter 2013 DIGI60Seconds – Spring 2013 SPARTA II – Summer 2013 DIGI60 – Fall 2013 There is also Talk of Treepot Media running a “cliffhanger” series which if I understand correctly will take 6 filmmakers, 12 months and end up with a feature in parts. As I really like Quieten Tarantino style films (more the multiple interlacing story lines, less the extreme violence) I really would like to be part of the project. Mainly my goal with all this is fun, but all these contests do serve another purpose, exposure and community building, which is vital for independent filmmakers like myself; and I’m looking forward to a fruitful filmic year.   P.S. If you know of other “Ottawa” based film challenges that are coming up this year, let me know in the comments below!
